Bali to Komodo Island Cruise: Liveaboard & Day-Trip Phinisi Guide (2026)

A Bali to Komodo island cruise is a two-leg trip: a roughly 1-hour 15-minute flight (or a longer road-and-ferry route) from Bali to Labuan Bajo in West Flores, then a phinisi sailing into Komodo National Park. You can pick a single-day boat trip or a 2D1N to 4D3N liveaboard covering Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point.

Bali Labuan Bajo Package is an independent trip packager. We do not own a fleet. We combine your Bali transfer with a Komodo cruise booked through vetted boat operators we have sailed with or inspected, and we tell you which option fits your budget, sea legs and schedule. The prices below are indicative, sourced from operator rate sheets current as of June 2026, and are quoted per person unless noted. Park fees, peak-season surcharges and fuel adjustments change often, so treat every number as a starting point we confirm in writing before you pay.

Do you sail from Bali directly, or fly to Labuan Bajo first?

Almost nobody sails the open Flores Sea straight from Bali on a tourist cruise. That crossing is long, exposed and usually reserved for private yacht deliveries. The standard, sane route is to reach Labuan Bajo first, then board your Komodo boat at the local harbour. Labuan Bajo is the gateway town that sits closest to the park.

Two ways to make that first leg:

  • Fly (recommended): Direct flights Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) run multiple times daily, roughly 1h 15m, with indicative fares of IDR 850,000 to IDR 2,200,000 (about USD 55 to USD 140) one-way depending on airline and how early you book.
  • Road and ferry: A scenic but slow overland route via East Java and a Bali-to-Lombok and onward ferry chain. Realistically 30 to 40+ hours. Most travellers skip it unless overlanding is the point of the trip.

For nearly all guests we route the Bali leg by air, then hand you to the cruise the same day or the next morning. The mechanics of that first hop are covered in depth on our main Bali to Labuan Bajo package pillar.

Liveaboard or day trip: which Komodo cruise is right for you?

This is the real decision. Both are booked through vetted operators; they suit different travellers.

Factor Day-trip phinisi (open or shared deck) Liveaboard phinisi (private cabins)
Duration 1 day, return to Labuan Bajo by evening 2D1N to 4D3N, sleep onboard
Best for Tight schedules, lower budget, first-timers Sunrise sailing, Padar at dawn, fewer crowds
Sites reachable Padar, Komodo or Rinca, Pink Beach, Manta Point (a subset in one day) All of the above plus Kelor, Kanawa, Taka Makassar
Indicative price IDR 1,500,000 to IDR 4,500,000 / person (USD 95 to USD 290) IDR 2,800,000 to IDR 12,000,000+ / person (USD 180 to USD 770+)
Comfort Day chairs, shared bathroom En-suite or shared cabins, AC on premium boats

Day trips win on price and simplicity. Liveaboards win on the thing most people actually come for: standing on Padar’s ridge at sunrise before the day boats arrive. Prices above reflect June 2026 operator quotes and swing with cabin class, group size and season.

What do the sample 2D1N and 3D2N routes actually cover?

Itineraries vary by boat, weather and ranger availability, but two patterns dominate. These are representative, not guaranteed; the captain adjusts for tides and swell.

Sample 2D1N liveaboard

  • Day 1: Depart Labuan Bajo late morning, sail to Kelor Island (snorkel/hike), Manjarite for snorkelling, anchor overnight near Kalong Island for the sunset bat migration.
  • Day 2: Pre-dawn climb up Padar Island, then Pink Beach for snorkelling, a Komodo dragon trek with a park ranger (Komodo or Rinca), and return to Labuan Bajo by late afternoon.

Sample 3D2N liveaboard

  • Day 1: Kelor, Manjarite, overnight at Kalong.
  • Day 2: Padar sunrise, Pink Beach, Komodo Island dragon trek, snorkel at Taka Makassar sandbar, overnight near Manta Point.
  • Day 3: Early Manta Point drift snorkel with reef mantas, Kanawa Island reef, return to Labuan Bajo around midday.

The 3D2N is the sweet spot for most travellers: it adds Manta Point properly and gives the schedule slack so a single rough-water morning does not cost you Padar. Dragon treks are always guided by a licensed park ranger, and sightings are seasonal and never guaranteed.

What do cabin classes and prices look like in 2026?

Phinisi boats range from no-frills wooden vessels to genuinely high-end small ships. Cabin class is the main price lever. Indicative per-person ranges for a 3D2N cruise, based on June 2026 operator rate sheets:

Cabin / boat class Indicative 3D2N price/person What you get
Open/shared deck (budget) IDR 2,800,000 to IDR 4,500,000 (USD 180–290) Shared mattress deck or basic cabin, fan, shared bathroom
Standard private cabin IDR 5,000,000 to IDR 8,500,000 (USD 320–545) Private cabin, AC, shared or small en-suite, full crew
Deluxe / superior IDR 9,000,000 to IDR 16,000,000 (USD 580–1,025) En-suite AC cabins, larger boat, better food, fewer guests
Luxury small ship (private/semi-private) IDR 18,000,000+ (USD 1,150+) Spacious suites, premium dining, often private charter

These figures usually include onboard meals, crew, snorkel gear and the boat. They typically exclude the Komodo National Park entrance and activity fees (paid locally, several hundred thousand IDR per person and revised periodically by park authorities), alcohol and your Bali-to-Labuan-Bajo flight. We itemise every inclusion and exclusion on your quote so there are no harbour-day surprises.

How do we price a Bali-to-Komodo package honestly?

We build your total from three transparent parts: the Bali-to-Labuan-Bajo transfer (usually a flight we book or you book), the cruise from a vetted operator at the cabin class you choose, and any nights or activities you want on land. We mark up the bundling and coordination, not by inflating the boat’s published rate. If a cheaper boat genuinely fits your trip, we will say so.

We are not the boat owner, so we are candid about trade-offs: budget decks get hot and crowded, the smallest boats roll more in open water, and shoulder-season seas can shorten a route. That honesty is the point of using a packager instead of guessing from photos.
